How to choose the plan that's right for you
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Office of Insurance Programs, administers the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP), the largest health insurance program in the world. OPM contracts with and monitors over 300 health plans that pay claims or provide care to covered members.

Every year during the open enrollment period, known as Open Season, all employees eligible to participate in FEHBP have an opportunity to change or enroll in a healthcare plan.

The decisions made during this period will determine out-of-pocket costs. Choosing a plan that best meets the healthcare needs of you and your family will give you peace of mind in knowing what to expect when health care is needed and provided.

The objective of this information is to give you a basic overview that will help you understand the different types of plans participating in FEHBP or available to Medicare-enrolled annuitants and survivors in California.

**TRICARE for Life was passed by Congress as part of the FY 2001 National Defense Authorization Act (P. L. 106-398) and became Public Law on 10-30-2000 and administered by the Department of Defense, not under FEHBP.
